A Little Misunderstanding

One of today's conversations at our house:

Gracie - "Mommy, do you like Cheezits?"
Me - "No. I think they are disgusting."
Gracie - "Ella, did you know Mommy thinks Cheezits are disgusting?"
Ella gives me a piercing look and says, "No he isn't."
Me - "What? Who"
Ella - "Jesus. Jesus is not disgusting."
Me - Laughter, laughter and more laughter. :-)

Easter 2011

After church we went to Moberly to spend the afternoon with my family. Here we are at Todd and Dawn's, salivating over the food we are about to eat.

Dad was feeling a little better, but was still pretty weak.

Ella, Gracie, Lily and Elsie - They were glad to reunite for a fun afternoon!

Ella was my snuggle bug today. I loved her pretty polka dot dress Nana bought her.

After lunch, the little girls went for an egg hunt. It was fun to watch my cousins Amber and Taylor hide the eggs. They are in college now, but I can remember hiding the eggs for them when they were little.

A mad dash to find the remaining eggs. This picture makes me think of Little House on the Prairie when the kids are running down the hill in the theme song.

Gracie Doo, striking a pose!

How did Sadie get in the picture??? She knew Ella was a friend.

Lets see what's in these eggs...

Money! Even better than candy.

After she changed into her play clothes, Ella went outside to see the animals.

Todd spoiled Gracie, Elsie and Lily with a wagon ride. They look forward to this every year.

We went to Grandpa and Nana's before we came back to Macon. They had an Easter egg hunt planned in their house since the weather was a little iffy.

Nice haul, Gracie!

Cheering for the Cardinals

Ella is an old pro at cheering for the MU Tigers, thanks to being raised by a Daddy who is a die-hard fan. She has been able to chant, "M-I-Z-Z-O-U, goooooo Tigers!" for a very long time. Well, tonight Brent was watching the St. Louis Cardinals game. Ella came into the room, looked at Brent and said, "M-I-Z-Z-O-U, gooooo Tigers!" Brent said, 'This isn't the Tigers. I'm watching the Cardinals." Without missing a beat Ella said, "M-I-Z-Z-O-U, goooooo Carnaboards!" I guess we'll work on her cheering.

Ella's First Haircut

This was a big day in Ella's life. She has been insistent for the past year or so that she does not need a haircut. She also told me that "it's dangerous." I assume she's referring to the scissors. Well, today was the big day. She has been dreading it, and even shed some tears before we left the house, but she ended up being a big girl and doing a great job. Here's the before picture as she's getting the cape on.

Here's a proud "after" picture. It doesn't look a whole lot different, but it really is making her curls spring up well. Someone asked me if she got a perm, so I know it's a noticeable difference.

"Babysitting" for Grandpa

Ella and I were supposed to go to Moberly this morning to "babysit" Grandpa. As we were leaving I asked Ella if she wanted to take a movie to watch at Grandpa's house. She opened up the storage cabinet for the DVD's, looked around a minute and then said, "But Grandpa doesn't have a DVD Blue Ray player." Ella doesn't even know what a blue ray is, but she has heard plenty of commercials that say, "Get it now, on DVD blue ray."

On a side note, Dad had a pretty good day. He was very tired and still had some confusion. He is also still having a large amount of bleeding, so we called the doctor's office today to let them know. They didn't seem terribly alarmed. We are just supposed to watch it and make sure it doesn't get worse.

Little Lambs and God Rod's

The Spring program was tonight at Crossroads Christian Church. Here's a picture of Ella with some of her fellow Little Lambs before the big production started.

Does she look ready, or what?!

Yep, Ella is waving at me!

There is a whole stage of these little cuties. I only could get a picture of about 1/3 of them! Ella was playing her maracas in this picture.

This is the song "It's Bubbling." Ella always gets really animated on the line, "Folks don't understand it, and I can't keep it quiet." Love it!

"If you're happy and you know it then your face will surely show it"

Gracie has moved up to the God Rod's this year. She loved Little Lambs, but she is learning to enjoy God Rod's too. They do "skits" to music and use wooden rods to serve as props. It's really neat once you get used to it. Gracie was playing the part of a telephone (or telephone stand) and then later a bouquet of flowers.

As the song progressed they laid their rods down and did sign language for the rest of the song.

Gracie also had to say a Bible verse she had memorized. She did amazing and didn't sound nervous at all!

P.S. - Dad came home from the hospital today. He's far from 100%, but the doctor felt like the confusion would clear up faster if he was at home.

Still In the Hospital

Well, things didn't go quite as planned with Dad's recovery. He ended up having 2 transfusions on Thursday night. That meant he couldn't come home the next day like the surgeon had hoped for. Dad also ended up having a bad reaction to the Morphine he was getting. By mid-morning on Friday Mom said she noticed Dad was saying some silly things. That got much worse and he ended up getting so confused that he was a danger to himself. He was trying to get out of bed and tried pulling his IV's out. The doctor changed his medication by Friday night, but they had to put Dad in a "sitting room." That means someone sat with him all night so that he wouldn't hurt himself. Poor Mom got the brunt of Dad's confusion. He was not himself at all and was very cross with her.

This morning I headed to Columbia to check out the situation. I got there first so I was glad to get to talk to Dad to see if he was still confused. Within 5 minutes of getting there he told me some tall tales, so I knew he wasn't exactly back to his old self yet. The doctor came in and said if he kept improving however, he could go home Sunday. I stayed through part of the afternoon and got to watch him walk down the hall. He certainly has a long way to go, but hopefully each day will keep getting better.

Dad's Surgery Day

Today Dad had to be at the hospital at 5:30 a.m. to get prepped for his prostatectomy. Ella and I left Macon in time to get there before the surgery so we could wish him luck. Too bad Ella was terrified of the environment and Grandpa's funny hat. She told him, "We have some of those and we put them over bowls in our refrigerator." We thought that was pretty funny! In her defense, those surgical "shower cap" hats look a lot like those elastic covers for leftovers.

Dad's surgery started a little behind schedule. We did a lot of waiting and checked the TV screen that updates your loved one's surgery status often. After waiting for 4 hours and 30 minutes the nurse finally came in and said the doctor was ready to talk to us. He said the surgery took longer than he expected, was harder than he expected and that Dad lost more blood than is usual. He thought the medication that the urologist had Dad on complicated the actual surgery. He thought that the worst case scenario would mean that Dad might need a blood transfusion later in the day. He told us we could see Dad in about 30 minutes. Well, it was about 2 hours before we ever got to see Dad because he started developing blood pressure issues in the recovery area. His blood pressure got very low and the doctor was worried about some bleeding Dad was experiencing that they couldn't get stopped.

Ella got tired of waiting to see Grandpa. About the time they finally moved Dad to his hospital room, Ella fell asleep. When we got to Grandpa's room he was still pretty groggy, but was glad the procedure was over. He will possibly go home tomorrow. His blood pressure, the bleeding and his breathing will have to improve. He was having trouble with that breathing gauge that they make you use after surgery.

Gracie and Brent came to Columbia after they got out of school. Grandpa was glad to see his girls! :-)

Ella was showing Grandpa the latex glove I blew up like a balloon. She was still a bit unsure about everything that was going on, so she wouldn't get too close to poor Grandpa. Get well soon, Grandpa!

First Golf Outing of the Year

After I got off work today, we went to Moberly to take the girls golfing. They were so excited to put their clubs in the van and head for the golf course. Ella has already caught the "golf bug" but I don't know if she will ever have quite the interest that Gracie has.

It was a gorgeous day, but it literally got hot over night, so we weren't used to the temperature change yet. It was 90 degrees and we were hot. Gracie had finished her water bottle by the 6th hole and was begging for more. As we approached the next hole, we saw a water cooler and cups. As we pulled up to the cooler, Gracie said, "Hellllo, gorgeous!" It was hysterical!
