Still In the Hospital

Well, things didn't go quite as planned with Dad's recovery. He ended up having 2 transfusions on Thursday night. That meant he couldn't come home the next day like the surgeon had hoped for. Dad also ended up having a bad reaction to the Morphine he was getting. By mid-morning on Friday Mom said she noticed Dad was saying some silly things. That got much worse and he ended up getting so confused that he was a danger to himself. He was trying to get out of bed and tried pulling his IV's out. The doctor changed his medication by Friday night, but they had to put Dad in a "sitting room." That means someone sat with him all night so that he wouldn't hurt himself. Poor Mom got the brunt of Dad's confusion. He was not himself at all and was very cross with her.

This morning I headed to Columbia to check out the situation. I got there first so I was glad to get to talk to Dad to see if he was still confused. Within 5 minutes of getting there he told me some tall tales, so I knew he wasn't exactly back to his old self yet. The doctor came in and said if he kept improving however, he could go home Sunday. I stayed through part of the afternoon and got to watch him walk down the hall. He certainly has a long way to go, but hopefully each day will keep getting better.
