Fun Until the New Wears Off

Monday after we had our barbecue lunch and went to all the cemeteries, the guys went and picked up Janice's new piano that she bought. Immediately after we got the piano in place Gracie and Kalyn had to jump up and start playing and singing. The funny thing is that we have a piano in our home that Gracie looks at 25 times a day, but she very rarely wants to play it. As my brother-in-law said, "It won't be as much fun once the new wears off."

Agree. This is one thing I wish my mom would have insisted I not be allowed to quit -- taking piano lessons. I stayed in band all through school but haven't played an instrument since I graduated. I feel if I had kept up the piano lessons, I would still be playing. I also regret not insisting Alisha take lessons. Oh well, guess it was best not to live my life through my daughter's life as so many parents seem to do these days. I've listened to multiple talk shows how our kids lead such a busy, scheduled life -- being pushed by their parents. I do feel some is good (like what I regret for me) but I feel kids should be allowed to choose what they want to do (i.e., sports, dance, etc.). I remember playing my gmas piano as a kid all the time. Don't you wish there was a volume control. :-)

How true! Our older boys both took piano lessons when they were younger, but quit when they started guitar. Caleb has started back now to get some more of the music theory he needs to finish writing some songs.
